Eddie Money
The Quick Cash Interview
    in real audio

by Sondra Faye

We're talking Money. We're talking Eddie Money. Priscilla Hairriett took the photo's on location. But we know you rockaziner's have been waiting patiently & we love you guys for that- we've got it on Real Audio due to the technical expertise of our newly enlisted rockazine.com Staff Sound Engineer/ Musician Christopher Poulin (who has returned to his former self after the no smoking patch incident when his reaction made him look like Mickey Dolenz from the Monkee's) Eddie Money's band currently consists of Bill Mason- keyboards, Bobby LeVine- Percussion, John Snider- Drums, and Tommy Girvin - Lead Guitar.Okay- okay- the interview ...

Eddie Money:      Shakin with the Money Man- that's what it's all about.
Sondra:      This is going to be a very quick cash interview- and everybody is running around here- and it's very loud - and we've got 5 minutes to the show.
Eddie Money:      Well I love playing clubs we do a lot of good shows in the summer time. We work with Joe Walsh this summer, with ZZ Top, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent. It's great to come back. See people knocking down the bevys. Going down late, towards the Midnight Hour. That's when B.B. King says that's when it really starts happening
Sondra:     Everybody's out there waiting for you ( we were behind stage and the screams sounding like "Money Man" from the audience had already started) It's kind of very obvious.
Eddie Money:      Right on. Well we're not going to disappoint them.
Sondra:      On Track 5(Eddie's latest CD called )there's a very very young man kinda leads in to the fact that you're playing in New York City. And I was wondering what's his name.
Eddie Money:      Desmond. Yeh, I've got five kids. We dressed up the kids like little gangsters and little cops because we shot the whole thing like an Old Saturday Night Live Set. Like a Ricki Lee Jones Video. It was really fantastic. It looked like a Back Alley and the Kids were dressed up like gangsters and cops he (Desmond) came out and he introduced the show for Two Tickets To Paradise. As a matter-of-fact we did a Video it's on a Video Cassette, CMC put it out. And the whole thing looks great- we spent a little bit of extra money- like some stuff you get when you get audio on video is not that good.I went in and spent some extra money to make it sound really great about just as good as the record. If people buy the video they're not going to be disappointed because the sound is just as good as the album which is a change of pace.
Sondra:      Now; you have a Web Site somewhere.
Eddie Money:     We got a Web Site. Somebody bought Eddie Money.com- now they want to sell it back to me the crooks. But we're EddieMoney.Org right now. We got a Web Site up. We're trying to answer as many E-Mails as we can right now which I think is great.
Sondra Faye:      Okay, so it's non-profit.
Eddie Money:     Yeh non-profit.
Sondra:      I noticed that you co-wrote a song with John Waite(The Baby's) and Curt Cuomo?(a producer)
Eddie Money:      Yes, and also Tommy Gerber. It's a song called Can you fall in Love again?
Sondra:      I just heard like two weeks ago. It's great.
Eddie Money:      We're lucky it's doing really good on the charts. You know the first single we had out is a song written by Paul Stanley (Kiss)& Curt Cuomo called If We Ever Get Out Of This Place. It's a tune basically about all the people who do double shifts and their wives work & it's all basically about the people who really deserve two tickets to Paradise. That song did pretty good for us but they really charted it in the wrong position. I was competing against AC/DC and Ozzy Osborne. Which I like both groups very much. I co-produced the record with Richie Zeto. We were aiming more towards CHR AC. Something like that. If they want to hear the heavy stuff they can listen to some of the live stuff on the record. This one right now they charted it on the right format which is AC We're very happy with the success with it.
Sondra:      I also noticed that you, again, were singing with Ronnie Spector(For those that follow Ronnie's amazing career go check out her web site and read her book ).
Eddie Money:     Ronnie's such a sweetheart. You know um she helped me out so much with Take Me Home Tonight & made the song a big hit for me. That I brought her back. I wrote the song for my kids that Everybody Love's Christmas.
Sondra:      When did you write that?
Eddie Money:     I wrote it actually in June or July. They said would you like to do a Christmas Card, ...I said I would love to.
Sondra:      How do you get in the Christmas mood in June or July?
Eddie Money:     You start writing the tune and knocking it out. And getting it better and better and better. ...I took it very very serious- like with Baby Hold On & Two Tickets. Then I brought Ronnie in and we nailed the whole thing down. We got a 150 stations in less than 3 weeks. It opened a lot of doors for me with Can You Ever Fall In Love Again.

Money & Paradise

Sondra:      I have one question I've always wanted to ask you & it's about 2 Tickets to Paradise- What do you consider Paradise?
Eddie Money:      Living in Southern California probably a lot of people with the pool in the back yard & a golf course around the corner would reach paradise. But to me- I think Paradise is whether you got 2 tickets to jump on a greyhound bus and go to the mountains or a movie with a chick you haven't seen- or with a woman you haven't seen in a long time. They don't use the word chick anymore. 2 Tickets is about getting out of Dodge. That's what it's all about. Everybody want's to go somewhere- including me. I've got two tickets to paradise but I'm taking everybody.
Sondra:      Yeh, I noticed that. I guess you're takin the whole family now.
Eddie Money:     I took 'em out skiing. We went skiing this week
Sondra:     Oh. So Paradise is very cold.
Eddie Money:     Yeah, you know, anywhere is paradise. But I tell you I think Hawaii is probably the place.it. Hawaii or the Caribbean someplace like that.
Sondra:     Oahu-
Eddie Money:      Someplace away from the snow...

Now, I hate doing reviews- but Tommy Girvin, Eddie's lead guitarist had opened up way before Eddie had come on stage & he does have a new CD out & he did play one Johnnie Cash song amongst a whole bunch of other rock stuff & well some guitarists are just too good not to mention...
