interview by Sondra Faye
Sondra: Before I came here I watched again "Night of the Living Dead, and I'm a smoker, ummm, cigarettes...
and I was wondering what was the brand of cigarettes that they were smoking in that?...
George: Gosh, I don't remember, I don't remember. I really don't remember.
Sondra: Was it Camel or Lucky, was that like the big thing?
George: Oh, I think he was, Harry Cooper - Carl Hartman , was smoking maybe Lucky's the little short ones in his pocket. I don't remember what I was smoking then.
Sondra: Now it's a big deal not to smoke and all this other stuff.
... Now you're actually doing a movie called Bruiser and we're in the corporate office of Bruisers. Where did you come up with the name "Bruiser"?
George: I have a fifteen year old daughter, 16 year old daughter now, and I heard she and some of her friends using that word to mean knock out, a real punk, babe, and I said that's cool it'd make a nice title. So it's about a magazine, well the title in the movie is a fashion magazine. It's like
"DETAILS" that kind of magazine. and it's called Bruiser and it's also the title of the movie. Which we're hoping will be a Bruiser. In a different way.
Sondra : I definately think so, I was watching the dailys today actually I have been hanging around for hours and hours,
George: That's what it is; Hurry up and hang around.
Sondra :and of course drank like tons of coffee..
Do you drink a lot of coffee while you're on the set?
George: Not too much. I drink a lot of coffee. More than I should but not in wild excess.
Sondra: One of my friends is terrified of horror movies and she was wondering are you a good sleeper?
George: Oh yeah, I don't have any problem. Stephen King says that he has no nightmares cause he gives them all to you.
Sondra: Thank you Stephen.
George: I think that maybe that's part of it, people that work in horror I don't know unloading it somehow. I'm not afraid much in life except thugs on the street and atom bombs. I have no superstitious fears or supernatural fears or waiting to be abducted by aliens. I would dig it. But, umm, so I don't know what that is. some kind of boring fantasies or your mind trying to dig that stuff up, you know fears and why some people have them. I always like to work with more realistic stuff. I did three zombie films, but those are the only sort of supernatural films that I did. I think this guy from Bruiser, it's all in his head.
I made a vampire film called Martin, I don't think Martin is a vampire, I think it's all in his head. I prefer to deal with themes like that...
